Experienced Professional Trainer & Counsellor

Turning Point Training & Counselling was established in March 2014 following four years of crisis counselling experience and three years' training experience.

Training people in how to recognise and respond to someone with thoughts of suicide is a passion for me, learning how to ask about suicide, literally saves lives. It does not have to be perfect, the essence of a great intervention is care, respect and the ability to listen. Some of the organisations I have presented training for are Lifeline, Uniting Care Mental Health, Settlement Services International, Veterans, 180TC, Catholic Care, Redkite Australia, Neami, RUPA, Wellways, Parramatta Mission, Sydney City, and open workshops for the community.

Counselling experience in the past has included working with Lifeline, The National Centre For Suicide Prevention Training and Anglicare-Wollongong.

Turning Point Training & Counselling provides leading Suicide Intervention Training and one-on-one counselling sessions. Your counsellor is experienced, tertiary-trained and belongs to the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia. She is bound by an industry code of ethics, participating in ongoing professional development and regular clinical supervision to maintain a high standard of excellence.

Biography – Sally Roberts

I am passionate about Suicide Intervention Training and the need for all members of community to share awareness and a spirit of willingness to help prevent the tragedy that is suicide.

I began my studies in 2010 towards gaining some understanding about why people, especially those who are young, try to kill themselves. With no understanding, I felt hopeless, helpless and useless, and I did not like that feeling. I wanted to know what the 'right' thing to say was, and what I could do to help.

For the past ten years I have pursued this understanding and now teach others what they can do to help prevent suicide and save lives.

As a counsellor, I strive to provide a safe place for people to work through any issues that are causing pain, confusion or where there is a sense of being overwhelmed even momentarily. Issues may include loss & grief, relationship issues, self-esteem, assertiveness skills, mental health issues, crisis intervention, communication difficulties and any of  life's challenges.

I believe people have power within to transform, re-configure or adjust their life’s path and I know I am able to help facilitate these changes through self-awareness, compassion and support.

Counselling is provided in our room at 6/7 Mirrabooka Ave, Moruya, making it easy to access, private and convenient. I am also a member of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia).

Collectively, I have over 600+ hours experience providing Telephone Counselling, Group Facilitation and one-on-one face-to-face counselling. My experience includes many hours mentoring, coaching and helping people to realise their potential and strive to do their best, or cope with what they have. Additionally, I have two years experience working as a trainer and assessor in a private college teaching the Diploma of Counselling to a diverse group of students from different ages, ethnicities and cultures, and continue to work as an online trainer and assessor for the college.

I look forward to contributing and providing a safe place to fall for anyone requiring support and to empowering the community to know we can all do something to help save lives, we just need to start the conversation.
